Programme Overview:

The Level 5 Diploma in Computing (L5DC) makes up the second year of the NCC Education degree journey and builds upon the knowledge gained during the NCC Education Level 4 Diploma in Computing (L4DC). This qualification will introduce students to greater detail and more advanced topics in a range of areas including database development, information systems analysis, and network security and cryptography.

The qualification is designed for students who wish to develop advanced knowledge and skills in computing, including topics such as security, network systems, and project management. It balances theoretical knowledge with practical skills, preparing students for various roles in the IT industry or further academic study.

Entry Requirements:

For entry onto the NCC Education L5DC qualification, students must have at least one of the following:

  • NCC Education Level 4 Diploma in Computing (L4DC).
  • A local or international qualification that is deemed to be of a similar level to the NCC Education L4DC qualification. This must be agreed with NCC Education in advance.

Direct Entry at Other Points: Students may also enter the NCC Education Computing journey at Level 4 or earlier. Entry will be accepted at any point provided the applicant meets the following criteria:

  • General educational background is appropriate for the level of entry.
  • Knowledge of computing is equivalent to, and appropriate for, the level of entry.

English Language Requirements:

  • Previously studied in English at secondary school level, OR
  • A valid score of 5.5 or above in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) examination or equivalent.
    Alternatively, students can take the free NCC Education Higher English Placement Test, which is administered by Accredited Partner Centres.

Programme Structure:

The program comprises six units: four core units and two elective units.

Core Units:

  1. Networking Security and Cryptography: Explore various network security measures and cryptography techniques to protect data.
  2. Information Systems Analysis: Learn about the analysis of information systems and their application in the business environment.
  3. Database Design and Development: Understand the principles of designing and developing databases, focusing on data management and integrity.
  4. Computing Project: Apply the knowledge and skills gained in a practical computing project.

Elective Units (Choose Two):

  1. Professional Issues in IT: Covers ethical, legal, and professional issues relevant to IT professionals.
  2. Dynamic Websites: Learn the development of dynamic, responsive websites using modern technologies.
  3. Analysis, Design, and Implementation: Focus on systems analysis and design methodologies and their application.
  4. Agile Development: Understand the principles and practices of Agile methodologies in software development.
  5. Artificial Intelligence: An introduction to AI concepts, tools, and techniques, including machine learning and neural networks.
